Kremlin of Moscow is a fantastic monument of history and architecture. The place has become the symbol of not only Moscow but the whole Russia.

Each building of Moscow Kremlin is a page of history of the Capital of Russia. One day the walls of Moscow Kremlin were the borders of Moscow. Nowadays it is the heart of Moscow. Kremlin of Moscow is situated over Moskva River on Borovizky Hill. From the opposite bank of the river walls and towers of Moscow Kremlin seem to fence a magnificent architectural ensemble. Standing by Kremlin of Moscow you feel all the power of this ancient citadel. The height of its walls, narrow fire slits and battling grounds show that Moscow Kremlin is first of all a fortress. In the layout of Moscow Kremlin there is an irregular triangle of 275 000 square meters. The south wall faces the river, the north-eastern wall – Alexander Garden and the east wall – the Red Square.

On the territory of Moscow Kremlin there are spacious squares and cosy parks, grand palaces and gold-domed temples. Nowadays everything here breathes with history – old cannons and bells, ancient cathedrals full of historical events and names. Here Tsar towers and modern palaces, the residence of the Russian President and world-famous museum are very close to each other.

Moscow KremlinAt the end of the 15th century the territories were integrated into the single government headed by Moscow. In that period the ensemble of Moscow Kremlin was being formed. The towers and walls were being built under the direction of Italian experts that is why you will easily catch the likeness of Moscow Kremlin and Sforzesco Castle in Milan. The development of Moscow Kremlin lasted no less than 9 centuries.

In 1475-1479 Italian architect Aristotel Fiorovanti was in charge of the construction of The Cathedral of the Dormition which was built on the highest point of the Kremlin Hill. This Cathedral became the main cathedral of the centralized Moscow state. In 1547 the coronation of the first Russian Tsar, Ivan the Terrible, took place in this cathedral. In 1484 – 1489 the same architects from Pskov worked on the construction of the Cathedral of the Annunciation which became a home church of the Muscovite tsars and the Church of Laying Our Lady’s Holy Robe (or Church of the Deposition of the Robe) which served as the private chapel of the Patriarch of Moscow. In the Cathedral of the Annunciation there are icons painted by Feofan Grek and Andrey Rublev.

The general view of Moscow Kremlin changed gradually. In 1505-1508 under the supervision of an Italian architect Aleviz Noviy the Cathedral of the Archangel which became the burial vault for Tsars was built. At the same period architect Bon Fryazin was in charge of the construction of The Ivan the Great Bell Tower which is the tallest of the bell towers ringing the Moscow Kremlin complex, with a total height of 81 meters.

Kremlin of Moscow unites architectural ensembles of different epochs: Palace of the Facets (1487-1491), Terem Palace (1635-1637), the Arsenal (1702-1736), Kremlin Senate (1776-1787), Grand Kremlin Palace (1838-1850), the Armoury Chamber (1844-1851) and others.

Among the most famous things you can find in Moscow Kremlin there are Tsar-Cannon and Tsar-Bell. The Guinness Book of Records lists Tsar-Cannon as the largest howitzer ever made. Next to the cannon there is Tsar Bell which is similarly massive and the largest bell in the world (it weighs 216 tones) but it has never been rung.

As you have read there are lots of things inside Moscow Kremlin that will fill you with positive emotions. Anyway it’ better to see once than read plenty of times. Make your dreams come true!
